Fields of lavender in Joucas – Provence

Hey…we’re back on board Innocenti after nine months away. We are no longer home-owners. The only real estate we own is this 42-foot little piece of Aotearoa floating around in Malaysia. Let me attempt to summarise the goings-on of our time away in a single paragraph. Here goes….

We ran out money and couldn’t re-tennant the house, so decided to sell. We returned to NZ, and I went back to work as a fishery officer. Angus did yacht deliveries and boat work. It took 5 months for the house to sell (for less than we expected, but that’s another story). Loved having the family around. Christmas was fantastic. Celia (our eldest daughter) got engaged to Gregoire, who we met for the first time. We then landed a contract to deliver a 32m super yacht from Cape Town to Palma de Mallorca. I was the chef, Angus the captain. Three months and 6,300nm of Atlantic high adventure later, we made it to Palma. A short flight to Switzerland followed, where we stayed with Celia and GrΓ¨goire. Then there was the wedding πŸ’πŸ‘°πŸ€΅β€β™‚. It was a perfect day and a wonderful month spent in Europe before flying back to Malaysia three weeks ago. So that was nine months!

This is what the boat looked like when we arrived back. Generally, it was in good condition, as we had someone who came on board each week to run the engine, the water-maker and to run the fridge, but sitting in the warm, nutrient-filled water of Rebak Marina, stuff grows!

Oh yeah! The Great Barrier Reef.

Five days out of the water with a team of painters, who scraped, sanded, antifouled, polished, and waxed and voila, this is what she looks like now.

Back in the water after being scraped, antifouled, polished, and waxed.

We opted to pay to have the work done (such a treat!) because it is soooo hot here. It worked out to be about half the cost of having the work done in NZ. We did some inside jobs, like varnishing the bits inside that were looking tatty. We’re now ready to go exploring around here. It is nice to back within the cruising and live-aboard community here at Rebak.

Next stop will be Thailand, but when the season allows and the prevailing wind direction changes.

Innocenti looks great . I like that idea of paying someone !! Anna we sold our house in
Botany in Feb only after 3 days on the market , of course we had to take a drop in price to move on. As the market dictated at the time . We are now settled in One Tree Point,

Marsden Bay. Warmer than Auckland and soooo close to the water. I am undergoing my subsequent chemo sessions in Whangārei Haematology. I will finish a few days before Xmas. I never thought I’d be going through this again…. Not pleasant.Love your blogs I hope your book is in the pipeline ha ha

    All the best Julie

    1. Hi Julie, I hope you’re loving One Tree Point. I lived at the Marsden Cove marina for two and a half years and worked in Whangarei. I’d like to settle in Northland eventually. That area has so much to offer…even some music/singing groups. All the best for the treatments. My thoughts are with you😘

  4. Hello Muriel, what a time you guys have had with so much going on.
Sounds like the chef and captain had a ball on the stunning yacht.
Was there a bit of sadness about selling your house?
Your yacht looks so shiny and clean now. ❀️❀️❀️❀️

    1. Eeeeehhhhh! Yes, we’re having a great time after such a stressful 6 months of selling the house and being back at work (which I actually loved). No regrets about selling the house, just good memories of 13 family years, and the potential of where we might live after all this travel. I hope you guys are well and happy.😘😘😘

Thanks for the update Anna and congrats on selling one daughter off. The boat looks great and ready for your next adventure. Even better with no young ones around. Take care and please stay in touch. I will advise the team as we have our winter get together on Saturday at Johns place. Fair winds.

    1. Hi Keith and team! Please send my best wishes to all the hard-working HFOs. My blood was boiling when we were at the Rebak Resort/marina the other day, when 6 guests wandered out and started removing all the shellfish from the rocks and filling up their pockets with oysters and sea cucumbers….aaaarrrrggghhhh!😑 There are no cooking facilities in the rooms, so I don’t know what they were going to do with it all. I did think of you all. Angus tells me I need a new hobby. Xxoo
