Crossing the Atlantic on Whirlwind…

Departure day for Whirlwind. Thursday 2nd of May. Cape Town.

We’ve been underway for three and a half days. There has been very little wind and a rolly sea. We enjoyed a  gentle sail yesterday afternoon with a full suit of sails, and we’re gradually falling into the routine of watch-keeping, engine room checks, eating, doing the Stuff Quiz, and trolling a fishing line.

As far as food goes, I’m so glad I cooked meals and put them in the freezer. It really is a challenge to cook and serve a meal when the ship is rolling. On the first night at sea, we had a vegetarian pasta dish, the second night was chicken tortilla soup, and last night we had a beef casserole with couscous. The kingfish that we caught yesterday went down well with lemon and coconut milk and some sashimi with soy sauce and Wasabi. Lunches have been toasted sandwiches, wraps and leftovers.

A chocolate chip cookie always goes down well with a cuppa, and we’ve been drinking lots of tea. The other snack of choice is Gummi Bears.

Such is life on board. It’s a 1700nm passage to St Helena. We’ve got 1165nm to run.

Lunch time groove.

Our snack of choice were the yellow packets of M&Ms.

Your crew are spoilt for choice well done Anna.

Whirlwind looks amazing. I’m envious. Ha ha

Unfortunately I’m off to my cancer specialist again I fear my 12 years in remission are over, not looking forward to treatment again. No hair extreme weight loss ugh!,,

Life is worth the fight especially if it means I get to read your adventurous blogs.

I’m with you every nautical mile.

    1. Oh Julie, sorry to hear that. I know what it’s like living with the thought that cancer might come back. It’s a process. The positives are that you meet some wonderful people, you save on shampoo and time styling your hair, your skin looks really good during chemo…and it cured my tinnitus😆, oh and mozzies didn’t touch me for about 12 months afterwards…what more could you want🤣. Seriously, though, it sucks! Take one day at a time.😘
