We’re nearly ready to drop the lines and embark on this odyssey, this OPOE (Old Person’s Overseas Adventure) as dubbed by my workmates. The preparations, the cost, and the all-consuming nature of this project! Did I mention the cost? There’s the small issue of how we’re going to pay for it, what to do with our house, and our regular incomes from secure and enjoyable jobs. What about the kids (all independent now) and our elderly mothers? All serious considerations, but overshadowed by a sense of urgency to do this thing… this circumnavigation in a small yacht, before we’re too old and decrepit.
I’m Anna, my husband is Angus and we’re the proud owners of a beautiful 42ft, triple-skinned New Zealand Kauri yacht called “Innocenti”. She’s now 40 years old, having been launched in 1982. “Innocenti” was designed by Bruce Clark and built by Brin Wilson, a well-known boat builder in New Zealand. We bought her in 2005 from a couple who completed a circumnavigation, and with whom we’re still friends.
As the title of my first blog indicates, this is not our first rodeo and we’re not new to the world of off-shore sailing. We’ve had several extended off-shore cruises, BC on a little 33ft Tasmanian-built yacht called “Huon D’or” and with the children on “Innocenti”. Hence, the “full-circle” title of this site, we’re back to just the two of us. This time the aim to complete a full circle of the globe.

Join us along the way! See our preparations, starting with the refit, the courses, the new equipment, and how we get our ducks in a row before our imminent departure.
